Over 1000 Neal & Massy Retirees Reconnect Again
7/12/2012 11:17:34 AM

Over 1000 retirees across the Neal & Massy Group will remember June 27 as a memorable day when the Neal & Massy Group honoured them all at an appreciation event hosted by Neal & Massy’s Employee Benefits Department at the Centre of Excellence.  Former Senior Executives, Sidney Knox, Jesus Pazos, Gaston Aguilera, Asraph Ali, Michael Arneaud and Ian Arrindell were among the many who attended. Senior retirees, Rawle Barrow, Fitzroy Regis, Kenny Jalsa and Boland Mathura also came out to celebrate.

Retirees were treated to a day of fun events, entertainment, giveaways and informative presentations. Dr. Jennifer Rouse, Director of the Division of Aging in the Ministry of the People and Social Development delivered a lively presentation in which she encouraged retirees to enjoy their lives and give back to the community by mentoring youth. Other external presenters included Dr. Geoffrey Franksen who discussed health, and Gregory Seale, Fitness Specialist.

Chairman of the Integrated Retail Business Unit, Earl Boodasingh, took some time to recognize individuals who attended the event in 2010 and have since passed away. George Phillips, former Neal & Massy Executive, Vishnu Tewarie, former CEO of General Finance Corporation and head of Moneygram operations, and Bernard Dulal-Whiteway, former Group CEO, were among those acknowledged.

In speaking about the late George Phillips, Mr. Boodasingh elaborated that “Two years ago we articulated a new vision for this Group: A Force for Good – the most Responsible and Profitable Investment Holding/Management Company in the Caribbean Basin. George was a man who lived each day of his life with this vision in mind.  He personally undertook to mentor several top executives and he held firm to his values.”

”I am also truly saddened that Vishnu in particular was unable to attend this event as he was quite excited when he heard about it.  The Moneygram booth on the side which you see here today is a result of his enthusiasm for this event.  He was very passionate about honouring retirees and all the people who made a difference in this Group” he added.

Paula Rajkumarsingh, Neal & Massy’s Group Chief Financial Officer and Chairperson of the Board of Trustees of the Neal & Massy and T. Geddes Grant Pension Plans, thanked the stalwarts for their hard work over the years and acknowledged the contributions of key individuals. “It is with great pride that I make mention of the fact that Neal & Massy is the only company in Trinidad and Tobago to honour our retirees in this way.  Why do we do it?  Because we want you to know that your contribution is valued and we still need your support today. This is part of living our vision to be a Force for Good because we must never forget those who have gone before us and who have opened doors to guide our path.”

The Alzheimer’s Association, the Trinidad and Tobago Heart Foundation and other lifestyle-related agencies educated the audience on specific diseases and their roles in awareness. Representatives from Hi-Lo’s Just Personal Pharmacy and Smart Shopper Programme, Marketing & Distribution, Moneygram, Neal & Massy Automotive Limited and Canning’s Employees’ Credit Union were also present to build awareness of their brands, products and services. Retirees took full advantage of the opportunity to have their sugar, cholesterol and blood pressure tests done.

Attendees walked away with hampers, gift vouchers and other exciting prizes. They also enjoyed performances by local R&B group H2O Phlo and were entertained by the evening’s MC, comedienne and media personality, Philo. Feedback was positive with several attendees expressing gratitude for being part of such a memorable event.

The pilot event was held in 2010 and attracted 600 retirees.
