“Discipline, Dedication, Determination. These are the watchwords you live by now. Use them to get to where to what to be in life. And remember, your life is in your hands” said Gervase Warner, President and Group CEO, Neal & Massy, to a group of over 40 young men of the South East Port of Spain (SEPOS) Secondary School. He was the feature speaker at the Graduation Ceremony for the SEPOS Edition of the Neal & Massy Foundation’s (NMF) Boys To Men program.
On July 2, participants of the South East Port of Spain (SEPOS) Boys to Men Programme were awarded certificates for successfully completing the 8-week developmental program, which focuses on changing mindsets on a range of issues including relationships, family values, academic achievement, peer pressure and spirituality. The Ceremony included speeches from management and representatives from the graduating group. Mr. Warner, challenged the cohort to apply the lessons learnt and take charge of their lives. Making reference to the programme’s motto, Mr. Warner stressed the importance of translating these ideals into a code of behavior. He also advised the group not to let their past experiences determine their future as they work toward becoming leaders. “Don’t let past experiences shape your future. Instead, learn from them and ask yourselves, what is my life for? What am I going to do with all I have learnt and experienced?”
Up-and-coming talents and past participants of the Boys to Men Never Dirty (Laventille) Program, Thaddeus Jardine and members of the A Team, delivered up beat and inspiring performances through spoken word and song. Remarks were delivered by graduates of the Programme, Anfernee Streek, Keyron Lawrence, Nicholas Baptiste and Shaquille Matas, who thanked the Neal & Massy Foundation for the unique opportunity and described how the Programme made a positive difference in their lives. Shaquille noted, “I am very grateful for this Programme because now I can set goals and I am much more disciplined.”
NMF Directors Gaston Aguilera, Chairman, Hugh Henderson, Angela Hamel-Smith and Gem Rowe, Secretary, NMF were present to personally award the certificates to participants and congratulate them for their efforts.
