Industrial
Gases Limited (IGL) was incorporated as a private company with
operations at Aranguez for the manufacture of Oxygen and Acetylene |

air separation plants were added which allowed for production
of Nitrogen and increased volumes of Oxygen.
A sales outlet was established at Cross Crossing. Operations
were expanded to include importation and resale of structural
steel and medical, safety and welding equipment |

A
larger air separation plant capable of producing liquid Oxygen
and Nitrogen - the first of its kind to be installed in
the English speaking Caribbean - was commissioned at Harmony
Hall and this marked the closure of the plants at Aranguez |
| 1975 |
IGL
was acquired by Neal & Massy Holdings Limited and entered
into a joint venture with Liquid Carbonic West Indies Limited
(LCWI). LCWI was formerly majority owned by Liquid Carbonic
Corporation of USA and Canada |
| 1977

The
operations of IGL and the LCWI subsidiaries were merged under
the name of Industrial Gases Limited. A plant was installed
at Savonetta for the production of gaseous Hydrogen, a product
which was previously imported |
| 1984 |
All
production and administrative activities were centralised at
Savonetta while a sales outlet was maintained at Aranguez. Non
gas-related activities were discontinued

A
Nitrous Oxide plant was installed to manufacture and sell this
product to both the local and Caricom markets - prior to 1985
this product was imported |
| 1987 |
IGL
installed a standby by-product Carbon Dioxide plant at Point
Lisas |
| 1995 |
Praxair
Inc. (USA) acquired Liquid Carbonic Corporation, thus becoming
IGL’s minority shareholder and joint venture partner |
| 1996 |
IGL
achieved ISO 9002 certification in relation to all its manufactured
products |
| 1997 |
Messer
Greshiem GmbH of Germany, a subsidiary of Hoechst AG, acquired
the minority shares held by Praxair Inc., thus becoming IGL’s
joint venture partner. |
| 1998/ |
IGL
installed a new Carbon Dioxide plant at Savonetta to meet increased
demand both locally and regionally Messer Trinidad & Tobago
Ltd. constructed air separation plants at Titan Methanol –
1,500 TPD, and Ispat Caribbean (Steel) – 250 TPD, and a
Hydrogen plant – 32,500 Nm3/hr - at Cliffs &
Associates (Iron Briquettes). IGL was contracted to provide administrative,
engineering and plant maintenance services to these three plants. |
| 2002 |
Air
Liquide International S.A. of Paris, France, acquired the
minority shares held by Messer Greshiem GmbH of Germany, thus
becoming IGL's joint venture partner. |
